The #MeToo movement has empowered countless people to open up about their experiences with sexual harassment and misconduct in the work place—especially in the entertainment industry. And the latest actress to share her story is Evangeline Lilly, who revealed she felt she had “no control” over the nude scenes she filmed for Lost.
Lilly starred as Kate Austen on the hit ABC series for all six seasons, and in a July 31st episode of Lost-themed podcast The LOST Boys, she opened up about how she felt “cornered” into doing a nude scene during Season 3, and shared that it wasn’t the only time she felt coerced into an uncomfortable situation on set.
In Season 3, I'd had a bad experience on set with being basically cornered into doing a scene partially naked, and I felt had no choice in the matter," she said. "I was mortified and I was trembling, and when it finished, I was crying my eyes out and I had to go on to a very formidable, very strong scene immediately thereafter.
Lilly added
And so, in Season 4, another scene came up where Kate was undressing, and I fought very hard to have that scene be under my control, and I failed to control it again. And so, I then said, ‘That’s it. No more. You can write whatever you want—[but] I won’t do it. I will never take my clothes off on this show again.’ And I didn’t.
She explains that her 15-year experience in the entertainment industry has helped her become “a little bit better equipped now to not have uncomfortable experiences come up,” meaning she’ll pass on a role if nude scenes are required. “It’s not because I think there’s anything wrong with doing nudity. It’s because I don’t trust that I can be comfortable and safe,” she said.
Lilly noted that she’s lucky to be in “a very privileged position” where she can now pick and choose her projects: “I’ve got enough success under my belt that I can be, and I feel for women who are just struggling to come up in the industry and don’t really know how to navigate that.”

Lost co-creators J.J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof, along with the show’s executive producers, Jack Bender and Carlton Cuse, issued a statement about Lilly’s comments to People.com on August 2nd, writing,
Our response to Evie’s comments this morning in the media was to immediately reach out to her to profoundly apologize for the experience she detailed while working on Lost. We have not yet connected with her, but remain deeply and sincerely sorry. No person should ever feel unsafe at work. Period.

R1 Lol of course [italic]now[/italic] they're sorry.

It Only Took 12 Years for Lost’s Producers to Apologize to Evangeline Lilly

How gay must I be that I watched the entire series and can't even faintly recall those scenes?
| by Anonymous | reply 4 | August 7, 2018 2:15 AM |
Is that about the scene where she showers naked and the guy tells her that he's not interested in her kind (as in women)?
| by Anonymous | reply 5 | August 7, 2018 2:17 AM |
Right. Because ABC showed so much nudity, then and now. How unsafe can you feel when you know there's no way any naked body part will air?
What a pussy. People do shower scenes all the time on TV without issue. Some people just love jumping on the Victim bandwagon.
| by Anonymous | reply 6 | August 7, 2018 2:23 AM |
I don't remember those scenes

This is what metoo has become...nude scenes on network TV? The woman who started metoo started it because of physical abuse. Now everything under the sun is being vomited out as metoo.

r5 He says she isn't his type (don't know how it was said in the English version), which the actor himself said means you are gay, if Evangeline Lilly isn't your type; but I don't think the writers meant it that way as him saying he is gay. The actor played a man who is in a relationship with a man in Lost, might be still bi, the character.

It's not like she even had to be exposed on the set. SAG has rules for that stuff so she was probably in a bathing suit of sorts. This woman sounds like an idiot.
Easy to yack now but she couldn't stand up for herself then? And risk the millions she was getting paid being on a ultra-hot show? There's some integrity for you.
| by Anonymous | reply 12 | August 7, 2018 2:31 AM |
"Tell her an actress that will not perform in a bathing suit is being absurd."
| by Anonymous | reply 13 | August 7, 2018 2:33 AM |
In her defense, regardless of what ended up being seen by VIEWERS, imagine being at your job and being made to be completely or nearly naked in front of a large portion of your coworkers. It would be extremely uncomfortable and depending on how it is handled, can be mortifying even on a set where you would think it may not be.
| by Anonymous | reply 14 | August 7, 2018 2:33 AM |
Yeah, I call bullshit on this as well. Network TV doesn't show nudity and she knew that.
| by Anonymous | reply 15 | August 7, 2018 2:33 AM |
That was M.C. Gainey playing Tom Friendly and all I remember was that, in a flashback, he was shown at saying goodbye to a male escort. I don't remember him having an actual same sex relationship on Lost.
| by Anonymous | reply 16 | August 7, 2018 2:35 AM |
Again, R14, you won't be. SAG-AFTRA handles nudity situations very meticulously.
| by Anonymous | reply 17 | August 7, 2018 2:36 AM |
(They also have closed sets and skeleton crews for those situations so, no, not naked in front of whole crew. These rules have been around long LONG before this MeToo crap came along).
| by Anonymous | reply 18 | August 7, 2018 2:37 AM |
Have they apologized to viewers for the series finale?
| by Anonymous | reply 19 | August 7, 2018 3:02 AM |
They made her expose her neck mole.
| by Anonymous | reply 20 | August 7, 2018 3:03 AM |
The directors aren't allowed to say anything about the situation or conditions or defend themselves in any way, or they will be pilloried for denying her feelings. It's a no-win situation.
| by Anonymous | reply 21 | August 7, 2018 3:27 AM |
Are these the scenes she's talking about?

C-List actress on an old show only big now because of Ant-Man and the Wasp so of course she's going to complain.
I could lick Paul Rudd's shitter for days.
| by Anonymous | reply 23 | August 7, 2018 3:45 AM |
This dumb bitch just ruined ant-man and the wasp for me.
| by Anonymous | reply 25 | August 7, 2018 3:52 AM |
She's a nightmare to work with. This is why she has very few credits between Lost and the recent Ant Man movies. She pretty much threw J.J. Abrams and the other under the bus so she could have her #metoo moment even though if it weren't for them she wouldn't have a career. And she's dumber than a bag of rocks...a recent tweet of hers:
"Millennials...help an old lady out...who is the new #NoamChompsky? #seriousquestion"
| by Anonymous | reply 26 | August 7, 2018 3:59 AM |
It's well documented that women are prone to mass hysteria, and that's what metoo has become.

Please bitch! I belive R26
| by Anonymous | reply 28 | August 7, 2018 4:23 AM |
I don't remember any shower scene either but it's because she was such a terrible actress I lost interest in her character by the third episode.

Vaporize a couple people and 13 of 30 comments are left. As per usual, there are some sick, rancid people here.

If I were her I'd be traumatized for having to utter the words "Christian Shepherd? Really?" in the Lost finale. That was some real low point in her career and LOST.

R29. I find Ezra Klein cute and charming and yet he does feel completely entitled to prattle on about any and all subjects as if he's an intellectual heavyweight. Ezra is the new Chompsky.
